Tag, You’re It!

It was a beautiful day for The Magic of Monarch Migration at the SBG last Saturday. In partnership with Monarch Watch, skilled volunteers carefully netted and tagged 14 monarchs in the garden. According to Monarch Watch, about 300,000 tags are distributed to participants each year during migration. Why tag? There’s still so much to learn about these beautiful butterflies and their journey, especially as they attempt to respond to challenges such as climate change and habitat loss. More research is needed to support monarch conservation, and tagging provides data that is an important piece of that puzzle.
