A visitor to the SBG at this time of year can expect to be rewarded with the sight and sounds of a multitude of our feathered friends. A diverse array of birds can be spotted over the winter months, gathering high-energy seeds and fruits from native shrubs and perennials and taking cover from wintry blasts. From soaring hawks to tiny chickadees, all find essential resources in the gardens that carry them through the frigid months. Their abundance is living proof that native plants are the best bird feeder you can have! And as winter melts into spring, native shrubs provide nesting sites and host the all-important caterpillars that are needed to feed nestlings.
